England made…

Posted in Comedy Genius, Music with tags , , , on 31/10/2012 by Jen Healey

Whilst going through my bag of paperwork, which I’m not embarrassed to say has been overflowing for months, I found a list of bands born in the UK.  I can’t claim to be much of an anorak when it comes to music, so I cannot take the credit for knowing that the following bands were British, that belongs to the comedian Steve Hughes and his amazing rant about the X-Factor (urgh).  I had to write the list down (thank goodness for Sky+) but these are all from our little island –

  • Black Sabbath
  • Judas Priest
  • Iron Maiden
  • Venom
  • Motorhead
  • Def Leppard
  • Deep Purple
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Rolling Stones
  • The Who
  • The Beatles
  • The Smiths
  • The Cure
  • The Damned
  • The Jam
  • The Police
  • The Sex Pistols
  • The Clash
  • Peter Gabriel
  • Kate Bush
  • Jarvis Cocker
  • David Bowie
  • Queen
  • Pink Floyd
  • Radiohead
  • Supertramp
  • Chemical Brothers
  • The Prodigy

Now I don’t enjoy all of these performers, but you have to admit that it is a pretty formidable list.

Here is the man himself making a great point –

The vid is a little sketchy, but you get the idea.  The full gig is very much worth a watch –

Happy Halloween y’all!

Dreaded Diabetes

Posted in Journal on 06/10/2012 by Jen Healey

I have, for too many years now, been flippant about my type 2 diabetes. Yesterday I had a huge kick up the arse, in the form of my GP calling to inform me of some test results that I am still trying to get my head around.
I had my annual diabetic check on Thursday, involving weight, height, waist measurements, eye test, sensation test (filament on my feet), retinal photographs & a chat with my GP. I gave them a ‘bathroom’ sample, which they sent off for analysis, which I should’ve done over a week ago when I’d had blood taken – naughty. I was not really all that surprised to discover that my diabetes was ‘not great’, as I’d been quite thirsty of late. Dr B increased my Metformin to 2g a day, which was fine.
Yesterday, the results came in, showing albumen. This means, in the case of diabetics, that my kidneys have been damaged by high levels of glucose and are now not functioning properly, they are in fact, leaking. Yay. So I have yet another medication added to the list and the bitterest pill of all to swallow, again, being that I have done this to myself.
My poor long-suffering hubby has, as always, focused on the positives. Yes it is a great motivator for the whole family to re-vamp our lifestyle, eat healthier and get more exercise. Also, it is a much-needed reminder to take diabetes seriously.
So I’m a tad bummed out today, understandably I feel. I’m planning a walk to the local park this afternoon with my babies and then I have a diet to sort out. This is the Rock n’ Roll lifestyle that I lead! 😦
Have a better weekend y’all.

I had to share this lovely post with you, my amazing readers…

Emotional Wellness

What a wonderful message to wake up to on Facebook this morning- thought I would share. Remember everyone, we’re all amazing! But of course if we’re hypomanic we already know that ;).

Affirmations are a starting place for turning around negative thoughts about ourselves. Negative thinking can range from telling ourselves we’re not very good at something to completely believing we’re utter failures in life, completely unlovable and worthless.

Affirmations are positive statements we say to ourselves, for example- I love and take care of myself.

Once we tell ourselves something over and over again, we start to believe it. Once we believe it, we look for proof in our lives to support that belief. Therefore if we believe we are inherently bad inside and unlovable- we look for everyday proof that this is so: such as somebody putting us down or a disappointing result in a task.
